Too Cool for School, too Stiffed to Thrift

Thrifting has a stigma in our over-indulgent fantastical society of being "below us" and "dirty". This is FALSE!
Step 1 to thrift shopping: Overcome your fear! Many people (women especially) have this secret desire to try thrift shopping. (ALL of my friends drop their jaw in amazement at the treasures I find but refuse to try it out for them self!) Your friends (the artsy ones) always have the cutest things and every time you ask where it's from you're given a dead-end answer, Goodwill. As previously stated, used clothing/possessions, earned a stigma in it's earlier years of resale of being dirty, or "gross". Some may be afraid of what people might think of them, or that they'd be looked down on for being too poor to shop new! Ludicrous! Ok who am I fooling? I was a poor college student, and a poor middle schooler... but loving thrift shopping made it a double plus! Leaving the store with my arms loaded and my pockets full- was definitely school for cool.
First thing to understand with this rule is ALL of these thoughts are FALSE! Thrifting is hip, popular, "green: and really does help fill your closets without emptying your pockets. Second, I will share a personal tactic that helps me feel powerful and confident when I step into a thrift store. Always look your best, do your makeup and wear something fabulous. Doing so raises your self image and helps you to not settle for less then best clothing. If you're wearing slightly used, fashionable clothing you will be looking for the same. If you are wearing a hoodie and pajama bottoms you will settle for less then best and go home very unhappy with your purchases.

I will add a disclaimer here: some things in my opinion should never be bought used, but this will be covered later. :)

Bottom line, don't be too stiffed to thrift!

All of the pictures I post will include outfits purchased from thrift stores or items purchased at thrift stores. You too can find good deals! Keep reading for more tips! (90% of my clothing and possessions come from thrifting!!)

Entire outfit thrifted.
